WT #3 | Colbert & Rain Dance-Off, Loses in TIME’s 100 & Philippines in American ‘Deal or No Deal’

Stephen Colbert VS Rain

I was going to originally announce that Rain didn’t show up for The Colbert Report for his dance-off against Colbert [edit] due to what Colbert states here (yes! someone finally posted the beginning of the Report!):

[/edit]

However, as I was looking for the YouTube video of tonight’s episode, this showed up:

There was still 5 minutes to the show and I literally ran from the living room (where I’m typing this up now!) to my bedroom where my TV is. On the way there, I busted my pinky and the finger next to it on my right hand on a sofa chair. Fortunately, I didn’t have to watch the performance on YT and still got to see it on TV! (Like how many times do we actually use the TV nowadays?)

Unfortunately, the two lost to Shigeru Miyamoto, THE video game designer of Mario, Donkey Kong, and much more. It was so hilarious to see Colbert’s reaction in which he took a TIME magazine and fed it to a shredder, followed by a few rounds of bullets. lol

[edit] While watching the videos again, I felt that Colbert (the character) may have developed a man-crush on Rain. heh Subconscious, but obvious. :) Oh, and my phalanges seem to be doing fine now. [/edit]

NBC’s ‘Deal or No Deal’ in the Philippines

Earlier tonight, I also had the chance to watch America’s Deal or No Deal 2-hour special of their stay in the Philippines. I feel bad for Kris Aquino — I’ve never seen her quiet, ever. She was literally pushed aside, basically just providing the names of the 26K dancers and some commentary.

After the second contestant, Kris just sat to the side where the remaining 26K were and sat down. If she was told to co-host, then she should have done it. But if they told her to just stay in the sidelines, then they should have at least let her sit in the audience rather than stand watching. In my opinion, I would’ve liked it more if she did some actual co-hosting.

They also showed some snippets of Howie Mandel going to the streets and socializing with Filipinos. He went to one of SM’s supermarkets and showed the kind of service you would find: help is everywhere! This I agreed with. When I was shopping at SM Fairview and had to find my Creamsilk shampoo, all I had to do was ask one of the ten employees in my range for help. I loved loved loved that. I liked the ease of easily finding things in a mall, especially in a big one such as SM’s.

However, what I did not agree with is where Howie Mandel stated that SM supermarket workers will also dance for you, or at least that’s how it was interpreted. To me, that’s telling foreigners that you can be puppet masters and have Filipinos dance to your delight. If you believe that, you’re sadly mistaken! It was just another way for the show to hype the atmosphere up at the expense of these workers. Ugh.

The contestants, on the other hand, stated (shouted) repeatedly that they loved the Philippines and that the people from there were so nice. I’m glad that they received that kind of welcome. :) Unfortunately, neither of the two won the big $1,000,000 dollars.

Overall, aside from being nervous because it’s your country being featured in a show watched by millions of people in America and hoping that everything will go well, I enjoyed it. I got a little nostalgic when I saw Howie at SM when I just went to one a little over a month ago. Other than that, the audience was lively the whole time, the banker’s comments and body language were hilarious, and the contestants were really just fun to watch.

I’ll post up the YT videos when someone uploads them or if you know where to find the 2-hour special, then give me a heads up in the comments! :) Good night!

– Paula

LMAO at the Colbert vs Rain thing. Colbert is making Rain even more popular here in the US and Rain is milking it.

re: Kris Aquino she just plopped into one side of the stage after some time. Yeah I think they should have let her do more. She is who she is but shes also entertaining to some extent and I like how she hosts that show. I didnt catch the first contestant.

To me, that’s telling foreigners that you can be puppet masters and have Filipinos dance to your delight.

oh I hope foreigners do not get any ideas that they can actually do these. No way Jose! LOL
