o	As a fellow vegetarian, I was super happy to see that one of my favorite celebs had done an ad for PETAAsisPacific.com! Her ads promote a vegetarian diet and she talks about why she made the switch. You can see them here http://www.petaasiapacific.com/feature-yasmien-kurdi.asp?c=papfsyk. There is also a sweet video of her during one of the photo shoots!!!

@ plat - Hello, welcome, and thank you for giving a constructive critique! :)

First off, I don't think ABS-CBN was even venturing to capture Korea's "...class and quality..." because as you stated, "[t] he production was rushed such that ABS can claim that they are the first to remake koreanovelas," which is the answer right there. We have to put into consideration that ABS-CBN and GMA are always in competition -- so what is ABS-CBN to do when GMA sprouts with a Filipino remake of a Mexican telenovela (aka Marimar)? Remake an Asian one of course! This move was solely for financial gain, which I don't think, calls for many details when it comes to the direction of the story, the production, the casting, and the acting.

In addition, it's been widely used an answer time and time again whenever a country produces a remake, but I just got to get this out there: ABS-CBN, with the cooperation of SBS Korea, bought the franchise rights for My Girl. Note: "Franchise rights" as in My Girl has become a franchise, which means that any country that can successfully obtain a license from SBS, can remake the drama as well.

Also, ABS-CBN "...copied the concept, title, story...” ? Well, obviously, of course. You can't expect a company to buy the franchise rights and have them altar it to something totally different, right?

Now as for the acting, as I've stated before, though I have not seen the original (but have seen a wide number of Korean dramas), I'm satisfied with Kim Chiu's performance and the reason is this: I'm not looking to compare a Filipino drama to a Korean one -- I'm looking to how Kim and the rest of the crew will make the story their own -- their own Filipino version. Comparing Filipino work to Korean work will just leave you disappointed, especially if you hold high respect (and high regard aka favoritism) for Korean dramas.

Now with the choice of cast members for the show, that's a whole other story. lol That I agree with! For me (and many others on the net), Gerald isn't suited to be Julian at all. On the other hand, I think Kim Chiu, Cathy Gonzaga, and David Chua are perfect -- in fact, I don't want them to "copy" their Korean counterparts at all.

All in all, I thank you for bringing up your criticisms; they are gladly welcomed! -- Hell, this is what this site is for! :)

P.S. - "My girl Philippines looks like a sitcom." << Though I don’t agree with it, that right there, made me LOL. :D

My girl Philippines looks like a sitcom. It doesn't have that korean class and quality. The production was rushed such that ABS can claim that they are the first to remake koreanovelas. It was too simple. The acting was ineefective. Though they might want to give a different touch, it isn't effective. Since they copied the concept, title, story, why not copy everything even the acting. Kim Chiu is not that good as compared with the korean star. They couyld have staffed better actors.

@ Cee - Hi and welcome! :)

I agree with what you said: "Iba yung portrayal ni Kim sa series kesa kay Lee Da Hae, in a good way, at binigay na ibat-ibang flavor." Totally!

For example, I was able to watch a YT video that compared the airport scene between the Korean version and the Filipino version and each had a wholly different aura because of the actresses' execution style. Kim stepped up to the scene and in a sense, gave it more of a Filipino "vibe", which I loved.

At lucky mo - you got to see them! lol To me, I always did think that Kim was more of the "funnier" type rather than the kind of character she portrayed in Sana Maulit Muli -- in fact, mas gusto ko pa niya ang acting niya in My Girl than the former. lol Looking back, Jasmine in SMM felt a little too stiff compared to the Jasmine in My Girl.

Now I'm wondering how Regine Velasquez will do with GMA's rendition of "My Name is Kim Sam-Soon". Competition indeed. Hopefully it'll work out all right. :)

Oh, I watched My Girl already (korean at pinoy), and gustong-gusto yung concept at istorya. Abangan ko to everyday. Iba yung portrayal ni Kim sa series kesa kay Lee Da Hae, in a good way, at binigay na ibat-ibang flavor.

Actually, nakatira ako sa Quezon City. Nakita ko na si Kim, Enchong, Melissa, Carla, AJ at Gerald around first week of May near ABS compound para magkain sa restaurant near ASAP. GANDA nya in real life. Blooming talaga. Close sila lahat at nakita ko lagi may ngiti si kim.

I like the magazine, too. They're all pretty and Kim is maturing a lot. More power sa ABS-CBN, GMA rivalry. AND Go MY GIRL!

@ raissa - Okay last one before I sleep also. In reference to your Kim story, wow, that's cool. You're right, "who would have thought" diba? heh It's a damn shame I didn't get to watch the first PBB Teen Edition. Although, I did get to see some clips! That's why na-surprise niya ako when I saw the "Preview" mag cover -- she really did grow up.

And like you, I had apprehensions also. I stated in the "My Girl" thread sa PEx that I was both anxious and excited. hah Pero, from the episodes so far, the show hasn't failed to make me laugh yet! Kim's character is so likable that I've started to even use some of her expressions. For example, when she was cleaning Julian's face with the duster and said, "Perrrfect!" with that body movement. haha

As for the "crab mentality", I've read that somewhere also. Anyways, I've not only seen this online, but in real life also. Excuse my French, but it drives the living crap out of me. lol

And from what I've seen, there's more bitterness to the Filipino remake of "My Girl" rather than Mexico's "Marimar". I think it's because there's more "asian drama loyalists" on the net and they don't like anything that would go against the original. I feel that they're on "territorial" mode sometimes. lol

However, I think the show is doing pretty fine, due to Kim, Cathy, and Enchong, for example (yeah, when I found out he was a swimmer, I was like, "Oh damn!"). hah

Oh sige na, goodnight -- erm, good morning! :)

Watch Enchong when hes half-nekkid hahaha hes a swimmer(member ng Philippine Team), so hes really fit. I have always liked him.

wow Kim is all grown up. She actually stayed at the province where I am from for 2 years so she speaks my dialect too. And ito..we used to go the store owned by her mom and she would be there sitting in one corner, who would have thought. I voted for her to win in PBB.

I know its annoying to read all that crap. But I try to turn a blind eye na lang so I wont be pissed. I mean sure I had apprehensions at first about it but as I watch each episode I am amused by it. Kim is such a joy to watch. Crab mentality talaga ng Pinoy. They chastise the show when non-pinoys like Kim's portrayal and think that the remake is close to original eh kasi nga SBS co-prod kaya ganun.

I have seen a lot of my short story plots in tv shows that I have watched so kung nauna ako wala silang originality? kung nauna sila, I just copied it? Its all coincidence. One remakes an existing show to put ones own spin to it, a new approach, now be pissed if the original was butchered.

matutulog na rin ako..its my cousin's HS grad in a few hours. hahaha
